. . . where the 1970s live forever!

With a 20-mile wind helping to boost balls out of the park, the Cubs defeated the Reds, 10-7, in a battle of nine homers. The Cubs broke a six-game losing streak, while the Reds were stopped on their string of eight victories. The Reds rapped five homers, accounting for all their runs. Hal McRae and Tony Perez each hit two for three RBIs apiece. Johnny Bench produced the other run with a solo swat.

Billy Williams batted in four runs for the Cubs with two circuit clouts. J.C. Martin and Jim Hickman connected with bases empty. In addition to their runs on round-trippers, the Cubs counted twice on a walk and singles by Ken Holtzman and Don Kessinger in the fourth inning and piled up four runs in the fifth on a single by Ron Santo, double by Hickman, pass to Martin, single by Holtzman and double by Kessinger.
