. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Royals exploded for six runs in the first inning and Bob Johnson went on from there to defeat the Tigers, 9-3, for his first major league victory. The Tigers' seven hits off the rookie righthander included homers by Dalton Jones and Bill Freehan.

Bob Oliver batted in two runs with a single and Rich Severson two with a triple in the Royals' opening blast. Oliver also doubled in the third and scored on a single by Lou Piniella, who broke his own Royals' club record by hitting safely in his 14th straight game. Oliver got his third RBI with a single in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
