The Dodgers exploded for four runs in the 12th inning to defeat the Phillies, 8-4. Willie Davis batted in three runs with a triple and sacrifice fly to pace the Dodgers to a 4-1 lead, but the Phillies picked up a run on a homer by Byron Browne in the eighth and tied the score when Deron Johnson and Don Money hit for the circuit in succession in the ninth.

Maury Wills doubled with one out in 12th and was nailed trying to steal, apparently killing off the Dodgers' opportunity, but Davis and Wes Parker followed with back-to-back doubles to break the tie.
