A wild pitch in the 11th inning presented the Expos with a 7-6 victory in a split of a twi-night doubleheader with the Padres, who won the first game, 11-1. The Padres piled up 16 hits in the lidlifter, including two doubles and two singles by Ivan Murrell. Van Kelly batted in four runs with a homer and single. Chris Cannizzaro added two runs with a round-tripper.

In the nightcap, Nate Colbert, Bob Barton, Dave Campbell and Dave Roberts all homered for the Padres, Colbert connecting with two men on base in the fourth inning. Gary Sutherland and Rusty Staub hit homers for the Expos. With two out in the 11th, John Bateman walked and gave way on the paths to Jim Qualls, who raced to third on a single by Ron Brand and then scored on a wild pitch by Gary Ross. [The Sporting News]
