Although staked to a 7-4 lead after five innings, Bob Gibson failed to last the route for the fifth time in six starts this season as the Cardinals lost to the Braves 8-7. The Braves kayoed Gibson when Hank Aaron homered with two men on base in the sixth. However, Chuck Taylor, working in relief, was the loser when Hal King homered for the winning run in the seventh.
