Willie Horton hammered two homers, his second blow shattering a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning, to pace the Tigers to a 7-4 victory over the Royals. Dick McAuliffe was on base with a single when Horton broke the deadlock. On the next pitch by Mike Hedlund, Bill Freehan also hit for the circuit.

Ed Kirkpatrick and Joe Keough homered for the Royals, who failed to hold a 4-1 lead. The Tigers tied the score in the sixth on a double by Al Kaline, singles by Freehan and Jim Northrup, a sacrifice fly by Dalton Jones and two errors. [The Sporting News]
