The accurate throwing of catcher Elrod Hendricks, who twice nailed Rod Carew on the bases, enabled the Orioles to emerge with a 5-4 victory over the Twins. After the Twins scored two runs in the seventh inning, Hendricks picked Carew off third base on an attempted double steal with Harmon Killebrew running from first. In the ninth, when the Twins had men on first and third, Killebrew struck out and Hendricks threw out Carew trying to steal second for the game-ending double play. [The Sporting News]
