After being stifled on three hits, the White Sox got a break on a triple by Ken Berry to spark their scoring in a 7-2 victory over the Tigers. Jim Northrup slipped in a pool of water in center field and was unable to catch up with Berry's drive to open the eighth inning. Walt Williams followed with a double. After a safe bunt by Luis Aparicio, Tommy McCraw and Carlos May each hit run-scoring singles. When Willie Horton dropped a fly by Ayd O'Brien, the White Sox added their fourth run of the frame.
