A homer by Johnny Bench with a man on base in the ninth inning carried the Reds to a 5-3 victory over the Pirates. Roberto Clemente homered for the Pirates. Lee May hit one for the Reds in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie, but Bench's blow proved decisive when the Pirates rallied for a run in their half of the ninth on a double by Willie Stargell and a pair of infield outs.
