The relief pitching of Tom Dukes enabled the Padres to gain a 6-5 victory over the Giants. The Padres built up a 6-1 lead, scoring two of their runs on passes with the bases loaded in the fourth inning. Dick Dietz tripled with the bases loaded for the Giants in the fifth, When Willie McCovey homered in the seventh, Dukes replaced Mike Corkins and held the Giants scoreless on one hit in the last 2 1/3 innings.
