Gary Gentry missed no-hitter by a shoestring when the righthander pitched the Mets to a 4-0 victory over the Cubs. With two out in the eighth inning, Ernie Banks lined to left field. Dave Marshall got a slow start and then tried for a shoestring catch but the ball bounced off the tip of his glove for a single and the Cubs' only hit. Art Shamsky started the Mets on their way to victory by smashing a homer off Bill Hands in the fourth inning. [The Sporting News]
