Blue Moon Odom, who had been plagued by a sore arm, lasted until the seventh inning and received credit for his first victory since April 16 when the Athletics defeated the Senators, 8-1. When Aurelio Rodriguez singled and Bernie Allen walked, Odom yielded the mound to Rollie Fingers.

After Paul Casanova went out on a grounder, Del Unser tapped to third and Rodriguez was caught in rundown but was permitted to score the Senators' lone run on interference by Sal Bando.
