Saved from defeat in the ninth inning. the Orioles went on to beat the Senators, 4-3, in the 11th when Merv Rettenmund doubled and Curt Motton singled in roles as pinch-hitters. Frank Howard homered in the eighth to send the Senators ahead, 3-2, but the Orioles loaded the bases with one out in the ninth. The Senators failed to complete what could have been game-ending double play, and Dave May crossed the plate with the Orioles' tying run.
