Nate Colbert homered after a double by Ed Spiezio in the 10th inning to give the Padres a 10-8 victory over the Astros, who were stopped on a five-game winning streak. With the aid of two homers by Ivan Murrell, the Padres held a 6-5 lead going into the ninth, but the Astros rallied for three runs on a bases-loaded single by Denis Menke and double by Jim Wynn.

In the Padres' half, Murrell reached base on an error by Menke and when Ollie Brown grounded to Menke, both runners were safe on the shortstop's late throw to the second. After Steve Huntz sacrificed, Murrell crossed the plate on a wild pitch and Brown scored on a single by Chris Cannizzaro to send the game into overtime. [The Sporting News]
