Jerry Koosman hurled the route for the first time since the final game of the 1969 World Series and pitched the Mets to a 6-0 victory over the Phillies for the defending champion's third straight shutout. This was the eighth start of season for Koosman, who yielded only four hits. The Mets backed their lefthander with 15 hits, including five doubles. Ron Swoboda drove in the first three runs with a single and double. The defeat was the ninth in succession for the Phillies. [The Sporting News] |
