Four walks in the 10th inning handed the Athletics a 6-5 victory and split of a doubleheader with the Angels, who won the first game, 7-1. Roger Repoz doubled with the bases loaded to drive in three of the Angels' four runs in the fourth inning of the lidlifter. Jay Johnstone homered in the sixth, Repoz batted in another run with a double and Jim Fregosi walked with the bases loaded to complete the Angels' scoring.

In the nightcap, a three-run double by Alex Johnson and homer by Jim Spencer paced the Angels to a 5-2 lead. The Athletics, who had a homer in the first inning by Rick Monday, hit two more in the eighth to tie the score.
