Jim Rooker, who was an outfielder-first baseman in the minor leagues before converting to pitcher, batted in five runs, including two in the 11th inning, as the Royals defeated the White Sox, 8-4, to complete the sweep of a doubleheader. Joe Keough collected four hits and was the hero of the Royals' 3-2 victory in the 10-inning opener. Keough drove in the Royals' first run in the lidlifter with a single in the fourth inning. After Ed Herrmann hit two homers for the White Sox, Keough singled in the ninth and scored the tying run on a sacrifice and a single by Ed Kirkpatrick. Amos Otis doubled with two out in the tenth, Bob Oliver was safe on an error and Keough doubled to drive in the winning run.

Rooker batted in three runs with a bases-loaded double in the second inning of the nightcap and scored himself on a single by Pat Kelly. Two singles by Herrmann helped the White Sox rally to tie the game. In the 10th, Luis Alcaraz singled and took second on a grounder by Jackie Hernandez. After an intentional pass to Ellie Rodriguez, Rooker batted in both runners with a double and Kelly followed with a homer for two more runs to clinch the verdict. [The Sporting News]
