Jim Lonborg, who had been sidelined by arm trouble, made his first appearance since May 8, pitched two innings of scoreless relief and was the winner when the Red Sox defeated the Tigers, 5-4. The Red Sox scored the winning run in the ninth on a single by Tony Conigliaro after two walks and an error had loaded the bases. The loss was sixth in succession for the Tigers.
