The rookie righthander batted in the Cardinals' first run with a single in the fourth inning. Joe Hague doubled and Julian Javier walked ahead of Guzman's hit. Javier scored on a passed ball as Jose Cardenal walked. Dal Maxvill singled to plate Guzman. Dick Allen then hit loser Scipio Spinks' first pitch to him for a homer to climax the six-run outburst.
