Pinch-hitter Bob Christian homered with a man on base in the ninth inning and the White Sox added another run on a sacrifice fly by Gail Hopkins to beat the Angels, 3-2.

Both clubs were blanked until the ninth when the Angels picked up their runs on a walk to Jarvis Tatum, singles by Jim Fregosi and Alex Johnson and a grounder by Ken McMullen, which Syd O'Brien muffed, allowing a second run to score. In the White Sox half, Bill Melton was safe on an error by Fregosi and Christian knotted the count with his homer.
