The Dodgers, who were held to two hits by Phil Niekro in the first seven innings, exploded for six runs in the eighth and defeated the Braves, 6-3. Orlando Cepeda hit two homers to produce the Braves' runs. Manny Mota, Von Joshua and Maury Wills hit singles for the first run in the Dodgers' rally. After a sacrifice by Willie Davis, Clete Boyer muffed a grounder by Wes Parker, allowing the tying runs to score. Billy Grabarkewitz followed with a single and Willie Crawford then tripled to send the Dodgers ahead. Crawford scored the final run of the frame on a wild pitch by Hoyt Wilhelm. [The Sporting News] |
