The Expos counted five of their early runs in the sixth inning, featuring a bases-loaded triple by Rusty Staub. Bill Mazeroski batted in three runs for the Pirates with a homer and a double. The Expos pulled even in the eighth when Laboy doubled and Ron Brand singled.
