A two-run homer by Danny Cater and the tremendous relief pitching of Steve Hamilton enabled the Yankees to defeat the Senators. 2-0. Cater's homer, one of the Yankees' three hits, came off Dick Such after a pass to Roy White in the fifth inning. Mel Stottlemyre gave up a single to Ed Stroud in the ninth and walked Jim French and Frank Howard with one out before being lifted. Hamilton struck out Mike Epstein and Bernie Allen to save the game.
