. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Switched to the leadoff spot, Cleon Jones broke out of a slump with two hits, including a two-run single in the fourth inning, to lead the Mets to a 3-0 victory over the Cardinals behind the three-hit pitching of Gary Gentry.

In the fourth, Joe Foy walked and took third on a single by Jerry Grote, who advanced to second on the throw. The Cardinals then passed Al Weis intentionally and Gentry struck out, but Jones came through with his payoff hit. The Mets' other run scored on a balk by Steve Carlton when Tommie Agee tried to steal home in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
