Darold Knowles pitched four innings of scoreless relief and was rewarded with credit for his first victory of the season when the Senators defeated the Red Sox, 7-5. Del Unser homered for the Nats in the first inning and singled for his third hit of the game to spark the decisive three-run outburst in the seventh.
