. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Shut out on two hits over the first seven innings, the Red Sox picked up a run in the eighth and rallied for three more in the ninth to beat the White Sox, 4-3. Bill Melton hit a double and a homer to pace the White Sox. The first Red Sox run counted on a single by Carl Yastrzemski, a wild pitch by Tommy John and a sacrifice fly by Rico Petrocelli.

Luis Alvarado walked to open the ninth. Wilbur Wood, replacing John, yielded a pinch-single by Jose Santiago and passed Mike Andrews to load the bases. Billy Conigliaro singled, driving in two runs to tie the score. After an intentional pass to Carl Yastrzemski, Jerry Moses singled off Tom Murphy to plate the winning marker. [The Sporting News]
