A pair of three-run bursts, featuring a double by Matty Alou and single by Manny Sanguillen, carried the Pirates to a 6-3 victory over the Giants. In the second inning, Al Oliver singled, Bob Robertson doubled and both scored on a single by Sanguillen, who also crossed the plate on an infield out, a passed ball and a balk. Robertson walked in the sixth and raced to third on a wild pitch. Sanguillen also walked. Freddie Patek bunted safely, scoring Robertson.
