A triple by Jay Johnstone, leading off the 10th inning, and a sacrifice fly by Jim Fregosi gave the Angels a 3-2 victory over the Tigers. After Johnstone's three-bagger, Joe Niekro retired Joe Azcue. The Tigers then decided to pass Tom Silverio and Sandy Alomar intentionally, hoping to set up a double play, but Fregosi hit his fly to right field and Johnstone beat the throw to the plate after the catch by Jim Northrup.
