A homer by Sal Bando with two men on base in the eighth inning propelled the Athletics to a 4-1 victory over the Orioles. Banclo's belt off Mike Cuellar followed singles by Felipe Alou and Joe Rudi. Frank Fernandez also homered for the A's to account for their initial run in the second inning.

Rollie Fingers held the Orioles to one hit until the seventh inning when Frank Robinson homered to tie the score. Fingers went out for a pinch-hitter in the A's half of the seventh and Mudcat Grant was the winner in relief. [The Sporting News]
