For the second straight night, homers by Frank Fernandez and Sal Bando, together with the relief pitching of Mudcat Grant, enabled the Athletics to defeat the Orioles, this time by the score of 4-2. Joe Rudi started the sixth inning with a safe bunt, took second on a sacrifice and crossed the plate on a single by Don Mincher to tie the score at 1-1. Fernandez then smashed his homer to send the A's ahead, 3-1. Bando's belt added an extra run in the seventh.

Grant, who was the winner in relief in the previous night's game, returned to the mound and saved the decision for Catfish Hunter after taking over with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth. Merv Rettenmund singled to drive in a run, but Brooks Robinson grounded to Grant, who started a double play. [The Sporting News]
