Successive homers by Mike Andrews and Billy Conigliaro in the sixth inning, Andrews' blow coming with a man on base, wrapped up the scoring for the Red Sox in their 5-1 victory over the Twins. Andrews' homer kayoed Jim Kaat and Conigliaro's clout came on the second pitch thrown by reliever Bill Zepp. Kaat's defeat was only his eighth at the hands of the Red Sox, whom he had vanquished 18 times.
