. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Bert Blyleven, a 19-year-old righthander, made his major league debut with a victory when the Twins beat the Senators, 2-1. Blyleven, who was called up from Evansville (American Association) to replace the injured Luis Tiant, gave up a homer by Lee Maye in the first inning but yielded only four more hits before Ron Perranoski came in to pitch the last two frames.

Cesar Tovar walked for the Twins in their half of the first, stole second and scored on a single by Tony Oliva. The Twins then broke the 1-1 tie in the fifth when Frank Quilici beat out an infield hit, Blyleven sacrificed and Tovar singled. [The Sporting News]
