The speed of Bobby Tolan, who walked in the sixth inning, stole second and scored on a single by Lee May, enabled the Reds to edge the Mets, 5-4, in a game stopped by rain with one out in the home half of the eighth. Homers by Joe Foy and Tommie Agee gave the Mets a 2-1 lead in the second, but the Reds went ahead in the third when Jim McGlothlin and Pete Rose singled and Tony Perez pounded his 20th homer of the season.

Agee singled for his second RBI of the game in the fourth and the Mets tied the score with a sacrifice fly by Bud Harrelson in the sixth before Tolan's 17th straight successful steal and 19th in 21 attempts set up the winning run. [The Sporting News]
