Playing before a Bat Day crowd of 65,880, the biggest turnout in the major leagues this season, the Yankees lost to the White Sox in 12 innings, 4-3. The Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the game, but the White Sox went ahead in the seventh inning when Duane Josephson singled and Tommy McCraw and Ken Berry homered. Horace Clarke homered to tie the score in the eighth.

McCraw opened the 12th with a double and crossed the plate on an infield hit by Bobby Knoop and an error by Clarke. However, the run became earned when Berry followed with a single. [The Sporting News]
