With last-out help from Fred Lasher, Rich Hand gained his first major league victory when the Indians defeated the Angels, 6-4. Jim Fregosi homered for the Angels in the fourth and sixth innings. When Ken McMullen also hit for the circuit with a man on base in the ninth, Lasher took over.

The Indians had a two-run homer by Graig Nettles in the third. In the eighth, Jack Heidemann drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double and Hand helped himself with a sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
