After Frank Fernandez homered in the ninth inning to tie the score, Joe Rudi came up as a pinch-hitter with two men on base and also hit for the circuit to give the Athletics a 5-2 victory over the Tigers. A homer by Willie Horton helped the Tigers to a 2-1 lead before Fernandez delivered the A's equalizer. Rick Monday then walked and Dick Green, who bunted, was safe on an error by Al Kaline.
