In a game marked by eight homers, the Cubs cracked five for the distance and beat the Giants, 8-4. Willie Mays, Dick Dietz and Al Gallagher homered for the Giants. The Cubs started their cannonading with circuit clouts by Johnny Callison, Billy Williams and Jack Hiatt in the fourth inning.

Gallagher, pinch-hitting, delivered his first major league homer in the seventh. A walk, a sacrifice and a single by Mays then tied the score at 4-4. In the Cubs half, a pass to Phil Regan, a sacrifice and a single by Williams sent the Cubs ahead again and Jim Hickman followed with a two-run homer.
