With the help of three relief pitchers, the Reds defeated the Expos, 6-4. After Gary Nolan was lifted with one out in the seventh inning, Don Gullett and Clay Carroll each retired one batter. Wayne Granger then hurled the last two stanzas and gained his 13th save. Johnny Bench drove in two of the Reds' runs with sacrifice flies and also scored once after reaching base on a walk. Bernie Carbo hit a homer in the fifth innng. [The Sporting News]
