The hitting of Sal Bando, who drove in four runs, paced the Athletics to a 5-2 victory over the Indians. Bando, who walked and scored the A's first run in the second inning, homered with two men on base in the third. After hitting a wasted triple in the fifth, Bando singled for his fourth RBI in the seventh.

Vada Pinson produced the Indians' runs with a homer in the ninth inning to chase Catfish Hunter, who allowed only three hits. Mudcat Grant, in relief, gave up a pair of singles before retiring the side. [The Sporting News]
