Bill Melton's second error of the game allowed Scott to score with two out in the 14th inning and handed the Red Sox a 7-6 victory over the White Sox. The Red Sox fell behind, 5-0, before starting their comeback with a freak grand slam by Rico Petrocelli in the fourth inning. After a single by Mike Andrews, a pass to Carl Yastrzemski and an error by Melton loaded the bases, Petrocelli hit a long fly that bounced off Tommy McCraw's glove into the right field bullpen.

Ken Berry put the White Sox ahead again with a homer in the seventh, but Yastrzemski walked in the ninth and Tony Conigliaro hit for the circuit to tie the score. In the 14th. George Scott walked and raced to third on a passed ball. After a pass to Dick Schofield, Jerry Moses hit a grounder between short and third. Melton fumbled the ball and then threw wildly past second, trying for a forceout on Schofield, allowing Scott to score. [The Sporting News]
