Bill Melton's second error of the game allowed Scott to score with two out in the 14th inning and handed the Red Sox a 7-6 victory over the White Sox. The Red Sox fell behind, 5-0, before starting their comeback with a freak grand slam by Rico Petrocelli in the fourth inning. After a single by Mike Andrews, a pass to Carl Yastrzemski and an error by Melton loaded the bases, Petrocelli hit a long fly that bounced off Tommy McCraw's glove into the right field bullpen.
