. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Although hitting only two homers to four for the Cubs, the Padres batted their way to an 11-8 victory. The Cubs started the slugging with a two-run homer by Paul Popovich to tie the score in the third, but Ivan Murrell connected for the circuit in the Padres' half. Homers by Billy Williams and Jim Hickman in the fourth sent the Cubs ahead again.

The Padres loaded the bases in their half and scored three runs on singles by Cito Gaston and Steve Huntz. After adding two runs, one on a round-tripper by Ollie Brown in the seventh, the Padres scored three times in the eighth for their winning margin. Chris Cannizzaro singled to account for two RBIs. Johnny Callison homered with a man on base when the Cubs rallied for four runs in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
