Failing to hold a four-run lead, the Brewers lost to the Tigers, 7-5, for their 16th straight defeat in road games. After the Brewers took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, Dick McAuliffe homered for the Tigers in the third and again in the fifth when the Motor City crew scored two runs. McAuliffe walked in the seventh and Al Kaline smashed a homer to send the Tigers ahead. Pinch-hitter Gates Brown, batting for Cesar Gutierrez, drove in two more runs with a single before the inning ended. Mike Hegan homered for the Brewers in the eighth.
