Mel Stottlemyre triumphed in a duel with Bert Blyleven when Horace Clarke hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give the Yankees a 2-1 victory over the Twins. The Twins' run counted in the fourth on a triple by Tony Oliva and an infield out by Rich Reese. Blyleven, the Twins' 19-year-old rookie righthander, retired the first two batters in the fifth, but Stottlemyre then singled and Clarke followed with his winning homer. [The Sporting News]
