The Reds piled up 18 hits and beat the Phillies, 10-1, behind the six-hit pitching of Jim McGlothlin, who posted his sixth straight victory. McGlothlin struck out the first two Phillies, but then yielded a run on an infield hit by Oscar Gamble, a pass to Deron Johnson and a single by Ron Stone.

The Reds caught up against Chris Short in the fourth when McGlothlin himself singled with the bases loaded, driving in two runs. Lee May, Tommy Helms and Hal McRae each accounted for two more RBIs as the Reds pulled away thereafter. [The Sporting News]
