A homer by John Boccabella after a double by John Bateman in the fourth inning enabled the Expos to defeat the Astros, 2-1. The Expos had only two other hits off Denny Lemaster, who suffered his first defeat at the hands of the expansion club after winning four meetings last season.

The Astros were also held to four hits by Steve Renko, who faltered in the ninth inning and needed a helping hand from Claude Raymond. The Astros' run counted in the third inning on a triple by Hector Torres and a sacrifice fly by Joe Pepitone. [The Sporting News]
