Clay Kirby turned in his first complete game in 14 starts for the Padres and gained victory when Dave Campbell drove in a run with a single in the ninth inning to beat the Pirates, 2-1. Ollie Brown doubled and Bob Barton singled for the Padres' initial run in the fourth.

Al Oliver tied the score with a homer in the seventh. Barton opened the ninth with a single and gave way on the paths to Jose Arcia, who beat the throw to second on a bunt by Tommy Dean. After Ramon Webster popped up, Campbell singled. [The Sporting News]
