With the support of batterymate Dick Dietz, who drove in three runs, Juan Marichal pitched the Giants to a 7-4 victory over the Cardinals. Dietz homered with a man on base in the second inning and doubled another run across in the fourth. After taking third on the throw home, Dietz scored on a sacrifice fly by Tito Fuentes. The Giants added two runs in the fifth on a double by Bobby Bonds, single by Ken Henderson, two wild pitches and an infield out. Jose Cardenal and Dick Allen homered for the Cardinals.
