Coming from behind with three runs in the ninth inning, the Royals defeated the Red Sox, 7-6. Ed Kirkpatrick and Pat Kelly hit two-run homers for the Royals, but the Red Sox held a 6-4 lead going into the last half of the ninth.

Lou Piniella opened the Royals' rally with a single and stopped at second on another single by Paul Schaal. Jackie Hernandez followed with a safe bunt and when George Scott threw wildly to first, Piniella scored. Schaal reached third and Hernandez took second on the error. After an intentional pass to Billy Sorrell loaded the bases, Kelly tied the score with a sacrifice fly and Amos Otis won the game with a single. [The Sporting News]
