. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Jim Nelson, a 22-year-old righthander, made his first major league start and gained his first victory when the Pirates defeated the Dodgers, 5-2. The youngster was lifted in the eighth inning after Maury Wills singled and manny Mota was safe on an error. Dave Giusti, who relieved, gave up run-scoring singles by Willie Davis and Wes Parker before clamping down. The Pirates' attack included a homer by Willie Stargell. [The Sporting News]
