. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Taking advantage of the wildness of Mike Torrez, the Cubs scored six runs in the first inning and defeated the Cardinals, 8-3. A pass to Paul Popovich and a triple by Billy Williams accounted for the first tally. After a walk to Jim Hickman, Williams scored on a wild pitch. Ron Santo drew a free ticket and Willie Smith singled to load the bases. Jimmie Hall then walked to force in a run and Jack Hiatt singled, driving in two more. After Billy McCool replaced Torrez, Bill Hands hit a sacrifice fly to put the capper on the Cubs' capers. [The Sporting News]
